What is computer ? Data, Information, and knowledge

 What is a Computer?

"A computer is an electronic machine that is used to store, process, and display information. It works by following instructions given by users and programs."

Computers can perform many tasks quickly and accurately, such as calculating numbers, writing documents, storing data, browsing the internet, and running different applications.

Simple Analogy

In simple words, a computer takes input (data), processes it, and produces output (useful information).

Extensiveness of computer

Computers are widely used in many fields such as education, business, medicine, banking, communication, and research. Because of their speed and accuracy, computers have become an essential part of modern life.

Data/ Information/ and Knowledge

Before understanding computers completely, it is important to understand three related terms: Data, Information, and Knowledge.

Data

Data refers to raw facts and figures that have not yet been processed. Data on its own usually does not have clear meaning.

Examples of data:

1. Numbers (25, 60, 100)

2. Names

3. Dates

4. Symbols or text

Data is the basic input that a computer processes.

Information

Information is processed and organized data that has meaning and usefulness. When data is arranged and interpreted, it becomes information.

Example:

1. Data: 45, 50, 60

2. Information: These numbers represent students’ marks in a test.

Information helps people understand situations and make decisions.

Knowledge

Knowledge is the understanding gained from information and experience. It allows people to apply information in practical situations.

Example:

If a teacher studies students’ marks (information), they can understand which students need more help. This understanding becomes knowledge.

Knowledge helps people solve problems, make decisions, and learn new things.
